BOUNTIFUL -- City officials approved the purchase of a voltage regulator for $66,104 which will be a key component of a new control center for the entire power system of the Bountiful City Light & Power Company. By a unanimous vote the city council voted to accept a bid from Staco Energy Products of Ohio for the regulator. The equipment is expected to protect new electronic and control equipment which will make up the control center according to Allen Johnson director of BCL&P. On the same evening city, leaders also approved a bid for $34,460 to install switch gear for the new dispatch center. The new dispatch center is part of a $22 million to $25 million project to build a new power plant at 253 South and 200 West The plan involves removing two existing sections of the building and replacing them with new buildings and new natural gas generators. As part of the project an old lumber building on 200 South will be demolished and a new dispatch and shop building will be constructed on the corner of 200 South and 200 West. The city council also approved the purchase of 2,000 feet of high voltage cable to replenish the inventory at Bountiful City Light & Power. The city council approved the purchase of the 750 MCM 15kV cable from Northern Power Equipment of Centerville for $12,424. Northern was one of three companies to bid on the purchase. Any purchase by the city utility costing more than $10,000 requires city council approval Johnson said the lead time for the cable is one to two weeks and the new cable will be placed into the utility's inventory. He said BCL&P used much of its existing cable during a recent power outage at Indian Springs BCL&P is one of 40 municipally owned utilities in the state of Utah.
